For the Spring Art Show, I wanted to create a functional set. I had never thrown on the wheel before, so I was excited to see how a set of functional, thrown bowls could be different from the many pinch pots I had created in the past. I decided that I would make a three-piece set of bowls with a similar texture and glaze. I was curious about the concept of faceted pieces-- an idea in which I had formed after looking at numerous faceted bowls (which are often used as ice cream bowls). My style of throwing often leads to my producing strong, somewhat-thick pieces. I took advantage of this tendency, and was able to carve deeper grooves into my pieces without having to worry that I might carve through the walls.

About MeOutside of school, I take part in competitive swimming. I enjoy playing video games, drawing, playing with my cat, being with my friends, etc. I am a freshman at Trinity Episcopal School, and I have enjoyed being in Elements of Ceramics.
In the past I have been to many summer camps that offered ceramics classes, though I was never given the opportunity to use any of the wheels. This semester has been my first experience creating functional art on the wheel, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly! |
